This is it, the famous Tour de Swatara, ok well maybe not so famous, but still a fun ride. When - Sunday, July 18th, 8:30 am Where - Swatara State Park - parking lot at the end of State Park Ln. Here's the scoop - So get up early and get on over to State Park Lane by 8:30, yeah I know it's early but we want to beat the heat. The ride will pretty much circumnavigate the park. We will start out with some railtrail, cross over the Swatara Creek on the Appalachian Trail bridge, then get on Old State Rd with a quick stop to check out the the old canal lock, then off for a snack stop at the Bordner Cabin, then we'll pass the fossil pit (and maybe we'll see some high flying bicycles again?). Then we will continue on to Swopes Valley Rd, then get back on the railtrail back to the parking lot. For those feeling energetic we'll jump on the sweet singletrack for a loop. Then since we'll all be worn out and hungry we'll head down to Smokestack BBQ post ride for some, uhh BBQ. Oh yeah they have vegetarian stuff too. This ride is a great way to see alot of the park and see how big it really is. There's some cool stuff to see and there isn't alot of climbing on Old State Rd and the railtrail is all slightly down hill. This ride is open and suitable for all levels, as long as you are comfortable riding 13-15 miles of railtrail type trails. Depending on the group we will probably get spread out between the faster riders and slower riders, but we will have a few rest/snack stops for everyone to re-group, no one will be left behind. And I'll bet you'll learn something about the land. When we get back to the cars you can decide if you feel like busting out the 10 miles of singletrack or not. Helmets are required and bring plenty of water and some snacks. Let me know if you have any questions. Enjoy life's ride, Mike |
