SAMBA,

Hello, in and effort to keep you better informed on what’s going on in the club I am going to try to do a monthly email to you all. So, here is what is going on.

SWATARA STATE PARK TRIMMING WORKDAYS: We will be working to reclaim the trails from the Jungle on the following dates: Wednesday June 6 & 13th @ 6:15am & Saturday June 9th @ 9am. We will be meeting at the main trail head. As usual SAMBA will supply tools, but if you would like to bring a Gas trimmer that is ok. Let me know if you can make it out. Email Brian

LATEST TRAIL REPORT: Heavy rails last Friday saturated the trails, probably best avoided until Tuesday or Wednesday.

IMBA VISIT:  Last week the IMBA Trail Care Crew and with regional rep, Frank Maguire, came to Harrisburg for a meeting and trail assessment  at Gifford Pinchot State Park and also a lunch presentation at the Capital on the benefits of single track to tourism. The other side of the visit was to support SAMBA’s move to strengthening and building the Club through becoming and IMBA Chapter. We had a small  meeting where the Trail Crew gave a presentation on Essential Elements of Sustainable Clubs and a get together at QBP (Quality Bike Parts) a wholesale distributer to the cycling industry. QBP puts a portion of their profits back into cycling advocacy and to support SAMBA they brought in  Advocacy Director Gary Sjoquist to speak. I will be putting an article on the website with more information soon, but in the meantime check out one of the projects QBP helped support Click here to see the video on the Cuyuna Trail System (very cool!).

Stay tuned, more information to follow!

Hello SAMBA,

Here is a quick update:

IMBA Club Care Visit

On May 24th, from 7-9pm at Cornerstone coffee in Camp Hill (2133 Market St.), IMBA will be holding a meeting of the minds about the potential of mountain biking in the greater Harrisburg area. The goal of the discussion is to talk about some new potential riding opportunities in the area as well as strengthening the Susquehanna Area Mountain Bike Association. With the help of IMBA’s chapter program, the hope is to move SAMBA towards being a broader, more effective non-profit organization that can grow into the voice of mountain biking in the capitol region. This is where you come in – please come to this initial meeting with your thoughts and ideas and find out what steps are needed. Our goal is to come up with a steering committee that can follow through on these plans with IMBA’s help. If you aren’t able to make it, but know of someone who would be interested, please feel free to pass this invite along.

If you are interested in getting involved click here for more information and registration .

Tour de Cure -  Camp Mack Mountain Bike Challenge  - Sunday May 20th.

Darryl Bush is leading the SAMBA team, check out his page.

Swatara Park

Thanks to Bob Lyons and Andrea Strubhar for helping trim the trails the other week. We will start work again in June.

Dirt Fest

May 17th, 18th, 19th, & 20th at Raystown Lake in Heston, Pa., with more than 30 miles of IMBA-built trails, Raystown is a fast and flowy reprieve from the rocks and roots typical of Pennsylvania trails. Click here for more info.

See you out on the trails!

Brian Arnold

SAMBA President
