Sunday morning Andrea and I went out to Swatara for a ride and to see how the trails looked after all the bad weather. We found the trails in great shape with a lot of new trees down. So, we left some for fun (to hop), cut problem ones out, and a few we need to return with a chainsaw to remove.

1-11-09 UPDATE: Thanks to the help of Mike and Andrea we got the rest of the problem logs off the trail. Don't worry; we did leave a few new ones in to prove more fun and challenge.    Brian

At 10 a.m. Brad D, Andrea S, and I met at the Cornwall rail trail parking lot for a quick warm-up in the 27-degree air. We soon met up with Bill Gentile and few others. After a quick spin up through the Gretna Village we hit the trails. The trail highlights where trail #4 (downhill!) to the challenging trail #15 (my favorite new trail) then on to trail 13 (an old favorite). Finally onto 5 and then back on the rail trail back to the vehicle. It wasn’t an epic, but it was fun! There will be many more rides in 09 so stay tuned! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hello SAMBA,

First I want to let everyone know that the workday at Swatara Park on Sunday, October, 19th is canceled.

Second I want to let you know that the new trail, AA, at Swatara Park is open! Thanks to the help of Dave Demoss, Terry Resanovich, Joe Daversa, Lisa Carter, Mike Carter, Brad Doxtater, Derrick Hoffer, Mark Perez, and Andrea Strubhar two Saturdays ago. Trail AA is an out and back loop that starts at the top of A.  New map coming soon!

Lastly, someone has been ripping out the trails signs at Swatara. If you see any missing or one laying on the ground please let me know.

As a reminder we will be working at Swatara Park this Sunday. The plan is to meet at the main parking lot on State Park Lane at 9am and work until about noon. As usual I’ll bring the tools and you bring the muscle.

Another reminder, hunting season starts on Saturday October 4. Click here for the link to the PA Hunting Schedule.

  • Thank You for Supporting the Recreational Trails Program!

Thank you to all who submitted comments to Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA) asking him to protect national trails funding. Hundreds of mountain bikers acted on behalf of IMBA’s request that the Senator refrain from introducing an amendment to the federal transportation bill that would eliminate the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP). TAP houses the Recreational Trails Program (RTP), which funds trail projects across the U.S. that benefit recreational users, including mountain bikers.
