Camp Mack-A little History of how we got here
About three years ago, the Boy Scouts started a program that charged the general public for the use of the Boy Scout property. Their reasoning was that even the scouts had to pay to use the camp ( they had a good point, as this is not public property). The program included hunting and biking (Hiking & fishing were not included), and so the hunters started the Hammer creek hunt club, and Gary the ranger, is a founding member (So be nice to the hunters). The biking program started with a $50 per year permit system administered by the scouts .The following year SAMBA came into the camp and proposed to the BSA and Gary that SAMBA would become involved with Camp Mack in trail building and improvement of the current trail system, the permit system would be administered by Green Mountain Cyclery and the cost would be reduced to $25 .Zero money goes toward trail work, all trail work is supported by SAMBA contributing members. They agreed to our proposal, and SAMBA held a spring and fall trail work day last year. The accomplishments from last year included a re-route of the middle Lost Valley and the re-route of Big Timber and Spring Trail. This year we have had two work days, and re-routed Light Trail and the new lower section of Lost Valley have been completed. SAMBA is starting to grow and the success at Mack is part of that.
